discography & selected songs
In January, 2020, we played a house concert in Toronto and then recorded at The Canterbury Music Company two days later, with the spontaneous energy of the concert still in our hearts and bones. Release of the CD has taken a good while, due to pandemic factors. However, the music is still fresh and relevant.
By the way, the whimsical cover art was created by Jack Grunsky, who also mixed this and the previous 3 CDs!
This 2015 release includes a re-recording of Ladybug Waltz. As the band is now voiced by sax rather than guitar, the original version does not represent us anymore. We are pleased to note that JAZZ.FM continues to play the song, in this remodeled version.
This 2013 EP represents the first studio effort by the present ensemble. It includes one of my favourite songs, Aaron Davis' Pentimento. Manteca performed this tune, but in a 9-piece band, the bassist was way down the list to play the melody. On this version, I made it happen!
This four-song EP is only available in digital format. It features the wonderful Toronto trombonist William Carn.
Just after inmotion was released in 2004, JAZZ.FM radio created a CD called New Standards, being their take on Canadian compositions deserving of the description.
They chose Ladybug Waltz as the opening track on that CD!
Along with his wonderful drumming, Howard Gaul was also responsible for the delightfully offbeat cover art, for this and the next two releases.
